With a Micro Particle Rating of 1550, approximately equivalent to a MERV 11 rating, the 4 inch deep filter has the ability to capture 97% of large airborne allergens, such as pollen, mold spores and dust mite debris. How it Works — 3M Filtrete 4 Inch Deep Allergen Reduction Filters
When your whole house air cleaner or HVAC systems fan is on, air circulates in your home and passes through the filter. Filtrete filters from 3M capture particles in two ways: mechanically and electrostatically. All filters perform mechanical filtration by providing a barrier that captures particles from the air passing through the filter. Filtrete filters also have electrostatically charged fibers that work like tiny magnets to attract and capture particles. The electrostatic charge is most effective when your filter is new and clean. As particles build up on your filter, they begin to cover up the charged fibers, reducing the effectiveness of the filters at capturing additional particles. The time frame and extent of the reduction will depend upon the actual usage and conditions in your home. The actual effectiveness of an air filter in allergen reduction depends on a variety of factors including the amount of air that the filter processes, the nature of the allergens, and the rate at which the allergens are being introduced into the home. Replace every 12 months. Filter may need to replace every 3 to 6 months depending on air quality. Certain conditions in your home will significantly add particles to the air.
