AllerAir 5000 Vocarb Expert:
The special VOCARB carbon blend will increase this units efficiency at removing chemically reactive gases such as formaldehyde, ammonia, sulfur dioxide, mold toxins, and methylene chloride. These gases are common in paint, pet odors, solvents, disinfectants, and newly furnished homes.
Carbon filter: 18 pounds of granular activated carbon to adsorb chemicals, gases, and odors.
Hepa filter: Traps 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns including bacteria, viruses, and allergens.
Pre-filter: Traps large particles to prolong the life of your Hepa and carbon filters. 2 anti-microbial filters wrapped around the inside and outside of the carbon filter cylinder suppress the growth of microorganisms.
Optional UV germicidal light: To enhance filtration of germs, bacteria, and viruses.
Optional Titanium Dioxide filter: This Quartzel® photocatalytic technology uses UV light to activate the titanium dioxide destroying volatile organic compounds, hazardous chemicals, and harsh odors. Ideal for the treatment of heavy airborne toxins and particles.

Robust all-metal housing with baked enamel avoids the release of vapors from plastics and ensures that no harmful gases are released. Cylinder shape maximizes airflow.
Room Coverage: For general air cleaning covers up to 923 square feet. For maximum air changes for more acute allergies the recommended coverage is between 154 to 308 square feet.

Pluses:
Excellent value: AllerAir machines have always represented an excellent value for the money, and now that is even more true. They pack these machines with an impressive 18 pounds of carbon.
Choice of filtration media: We like that Allerair provides the option of customizing your air purifier to fit your needs by offering the choice of the EXEC or VOCARB carbon blend and the option of adding UV germicidal light, and Titanium Dioxide filter.
Improved finish and quality: We have been impressed by the progress of AllerAir in the last 3 years in improving the finish and quality of manufacturing of its machines. We carry 3 textured finishes, and our favorite is pewter. This textured "hammered" finish is less likely to show scratches than the original glossy or eggshell finishes.
Low electricity consumption: One motor consumes the same wattage (95 watts) of power as a single 100 watt light bulb. That is only pennies to operate these air purifiers 24 hours a day.
Cost Savings: You can save money on replacement filter costs by purchasing the carbon in bulk and refilling the carbon canister yourself.
Minuses:
Noise level: As with many manufacturers of HEPA filters especially the more powerful units, this one does not receive the quiet kid on the block award. To be fair, on low speed, the noise level is very tolerable and just a pleasant noise hum. We advise our customers to turn the machine on high when they are not in the room. They are, however, noisier than most.
No filter change indicator: Even though the manufacturer gives average filter life replacement estimates, it would be helpful if these machines had an indicator light when each filter needs to be changed.
Filter replacement: The prefilters that comes with some of these air purifiers require a more frequent change than we would like (every 2-3 months recommended), however they can be vacuumed in half a minute for cleaning to improve the efficiency of the filters before they are to be replaced.

We recommend these air cleaners for those whose primary need is strong gas, chemical, and odor removal along with Allergen control.
