Pluses:
- Superior filtration of airborne particles such as dust, pollen, and pet dander.
- The new 360° airflow design is ideal for filtering particles since their lighter and sit higher up in the air. The 5000 series have air intake on the bottom of the unit which is ideal for chemicals since they are heavier particles and sit lower in the air.
- Compact - AirMedic series are 4" shorter then the 5000 series.
- The AirMedic+ is engineered with a sealed motor so that there is absolutely no by-pass, meaning the unit is so tightly sealed that all the air is cleaned on the very first pass.
Minuses:
- Can not absorb as many gases, chemicals, and odors as the AllerAir 5000 series because it has a thinner bed of carbon and the 360° airflow reduces air dwell time.
- Lack of filter change indicators force you to estimate when to change the filters.
- Pre-filters need to be cleaned (vacuumed) or replaced every 3 months or so.
Summary:
The AirMedic air purifiers are AllerAir’s most efficient units for filtering dust, pollen, pet dander and other irritating airborne particles. The AirMedic+ is a step-up offering variable controls and exceptional particulate removal certified by an independent D.O.P test. We recommend the AirMedic series as the preferred air purifier if your concern is removal of particulates, but would recommend the AllerAir 5000 series if you are more concerned about the removal of gases, chemicals, and odors.
