How it Works — Blueair Reverse Osmosis Water Purifier

  • Reverse Osmosis works by increasing the pressure of water containing impurities on one side of a synthetic membrane, clean water is forced through the membrane, leaving the impurities on the other side. No chemicals are needed for this method of purification.
  • The heart of the Blueair Direct Flow water purifier is the ingenious dual function pump. It increases pressure to as much as 145 psi and forces water alongside the membrane to clean it. The result is better reduction of impurities, higher flow and a longer membrane life.

Care of Blueair Reverse Osmosis Water Purifier

The appliance requires regular maintenance in the form of changing the pre-filter. The function of this pre-filter is to protect the RO membrane. The unit has an integral automatic system that warns when the filter require changing. This is called for at intervals ranging from 3 to 12 months, according to the use of the water purifier.

Pluses:

  • No post-carbon filter save us time and money on maintenance. The RO 300 does not need a post-carbon filter because water does not sit in a storage tank where it would pick up tastes and odor.
  • Superior water efficiency keeps water costs down. The RO 300 utilizes a direct water flow system which cuts down on wasted water. The RO 300’s average efficiency of 60% means one gallon of pure water and less than half a gallon to drain. This by far beats the conventional 5-10% efficiency - one gallon of pure water and 10-20 gallons to drain.
  • We love that Blueair has included special features like the automatic water quality monitoring and safety shut down and filter change indicators for our safety.
  • It is easy to see when servicing is needed thanks to the indicator lights located on the faucet panel. The indicator lights lets you know when the unit is on, at high purification levels, at low purification levels, needs filters to be replaced and when it unit has automatically stopped due to lack of filter change or deterioration in water quality.

Minuses:

  • Depending on use, the pre-filter needs to be replaced every 3 to 12 months.

Summary:

We applaud Blueair once again for the creation of a superior product. The RO 300 has simplicity, safety and performance. With one less filter (no post filter) this unit saves us time and money on maintenance. Using the direct flow technology, not only do we get a high flow of water, but it also allows for the elimination of a holding tank which is known for adding a foul taste and odor to water. With direct flow and no holding tank, the unit has a smaller compact design with a larger membrane area, providing us with a superior flow of pure water.
