How it Works — Comfort Dry 400 Gas-fired Whole House Desiccant Dehumidifier
The revolutionary new technology of NovelAire’s Comfort Wheel TM is specifically designed to maximize moisture removal and comfort in your home. (click here for Comfort Wheel diagram) It is based on two counter current airstreams flowing through the Comfort Wheel. Return air from the rooms in your home is drawn through the rotating wheel where the desiccant adsorbs the moisture from the air stream and returns the dried air back to the rooms. As the moisture laden wheel rotates into the outdoor air stream a gas flame heats the outdoor air so that it dries the wheel and discharges the unwanted excess moisture outdoors. This energy efficient process provides greater comfort and lower cooling bills.

Craftsmanship of — Comfort Dry 400 Gas-fired Whole House Desiccant Dehumidifier
The ComfortDry 400 consists of two fans, a rotating desiccant wheel, and a gas burner. Periodic filter changes typical of any HVAC equipment is all that is required for maintenance. The heart of the unit, the desiccant wheel, should never need changing and will not lose its capacity over time and is designed to last the life of the equipment.

Summary:
With the Comfort Dry 400 you can now control the humidity without changing the temperature. Control indoor air quality with a product that can provide centralized humidity regulation giving homeowners and small-business owners an alternative to manual devices or very cold spaces. This residential gas-fired desiccant dehumidifier is particularly efficient in the spring and autumn when the months are mild enough to make air conditioning unnecessary, yet there is still plenty of moisture to be removed from the air. The Comfort Dry 400 makes controlling the humidity in your entire home as easy as adjusting your thermostat.

Notes regarding Comfort Dry 400 Gas-fired Whole House Desiccant Dehumidifier
|
How To Install
The system works in conjunction with your HVAC duct work or can be installed with its own eight-inch metal ducts. While installing the product in conjunction with existing duct work is a little more complex than starting from scratch, the advantage is mold and dust-free vents. It requires an 8 inch diameter inflow and outflow downstream from the evaporator coil of the central system. In this configuration a gravity damper is installed between the two connections to prevent back flow. The unit is controlled by a separate humidistat and will cycle on and off to control humidity independently of the main air conditioning system. Historically, eighty percent of the installations have been of this type. The remainder have been installed with its own ducts so the existing duct work does not have to be violated and therefore the process is much simpler. Either way, the moisture in the home is eliminated. An 8 inch return air line is connected to the unit and an 8 inch supply line is branched to two or three ceiling ducts servicing main rooms of the house. In either installation, outdoor air is ducted to the unit through a 6 inch duct and is then exhausted back out through a 5 inch duct after regeneration by the gas fire.
