Pluses:
- Very quiet operation: These are the quietest low-temperature dehumidifiers we have ever tested.
- Features an automatic restart after power outage.
- Save floor space: Most dehumidifiers cannot be placed against the wall – these can because humid air is drawn in the front and dry air comes out the top.
- Energy star rated: We like the fact that these are rated for low energy consumption.
- Flexible humidistat settings: For those who like precise settings, you can set the humidistat in increments of 5%.
- Low temperature dehumidifier: Low temp is a must for cold basements – this unit will operate down to 42.8°F
- Portable: If you need to move the dehumidifier, they have both casters and side-grip handles.
Minuses:
- Continuous Fan: Unlike other residential dehumidifiers - where the fan only runs when the compressor is operating the Danby's Fan is always on for continuous ventilation.
- Since the continuous drain opening is 3 1/2" off the floor, the use of the pump requires raising the dehumidifier a couple of inches since the inlet to the reservoir on the pump is 4 1/2" off the floor.
Summary:
Danby Silhouettes are one of our most versatile dehumidifiers. Basements in cold climates can reach low temperatures, in which case, the Danby would be a great choice. If you have a finished basement, we recommend the Danby for its very quiet operation and convenient ability to be pushed up against a wall.
