- The fan runs continuously on this unit. The compressor only will turn off either when the bucket is full or when the set humidity has been reached. There is a two-fold benefit from the fan always running which is first, the humidistat will detect an increase in humidity gradually due to the constant flow of air from the room which will prevent the compressor from turning on pre-maturely. Second, the fan will both circulate the air throughout the room to enhance the mixing of the humidity in the air and also assist with the drying of any residual moisture inside the unit to prevent bacteria and mold. Finally, the concern over electricity used is minor since the fan running is similar to the wattage from a light bulb and it is the compressor that uses the majority of the electricity.
