Effective UV-C light exposure times vary depending on surface to be sanitized. Recommended exposure times for common uses are as follows:
Bedding/Mattresses: hold wand approximately 3 cm from surface and move in a sideways motion over an area of 30 cm for 20 seconds. Continue until the entire surface area is covered
Pet Beds and Enclosures: hold wand approximately 3 cm from surface and move in a sideways motion over an area of 30 cm for 20 seconds. Continue until the entire surface area is covered
Personal hygiene items (brushes, toothbrushes, earrings, razors): expose items at close range for a minimum of 10 seconds
Kitchen utensils: Place on counter (away from water) and expose to the light at a close range for a minimum of 10 seconds
Counters and bathroom fixtures: hold wand 3 cm above the surface and expose to the light for 20 seconds. Move the wand slowly sideways to cover the entire surface.
Computers, Doorknobs, Telephones, etc: expose at a distance of 3 cm for at least 10 seconds.
Shoes: use once a week at close range for 60 seconds to help kill odors and germs that cause athlete's foot. Expose the soles of your shoe's more often at close range for 20 seconds
Fruits: holding the wand 3 cm from the surface, expose fruit for 20 seconds. Do not expose fruit for very long periods because it may change the taste.
Since the UVC light disrupts DNA in cells, it should never be used on pets, plants or food products (other then as directed). It should also never be allowed to shine on human exposed skin or directly into your eyes. These products are equipped with protective systems to turn the UVC light off when the device it turned upward towards the eyes.
