Pluses:
The +/- finger tip suction controls conveniently located on the deluxe handle of the telescopic wand definitely make the Capricorn stand out amongst the other S5’s. The suction controls are linked to the LED indicator, which is also located on the wand’s handle, to easily show you what suction level you are on!
The new silence insulation makes the Capricorn really quiet, especially when on a low suction level.
The Capricorn’s Active Hepa Filter and sealed system construction truly provides excellent air quality as you vacuum by trapping dust and other particles inside the vacuum cleaner.
We love the larger 4.76 qt. AirClean dust bag because it is more efficient and allows for longer use.
The Capricorn proves to be a “no worries” vacuum with its dust bag and filter change indicators that tell you when it is time to replace a full bag or change a dirty filter.
For those of us who are doing a million things at once, we applaud the way Miele has incorporated the auto shut-off feature when place the vacuum in the park position. You can now save time by just parking the vacuum and it will shut its self off when you have to leave your vacuuming in a hurry for something.
The S5’s come standard with the new Parquet Floor brush, with a new improved swivel design which is most helpful when cleaning in hard to reach areas like under the bed. The Parquet Floor Brush has been redesigned with shorter natural bristles and spaces between the bristle sections to provide for maximum suction and longer life.
The Capricorn comes with the more robust full-sized power brush for carpets that need a deeper, more powerful cleaning.
We like the sleek, lightweight design of the new S5 models as they are easily maneuvered and carried up or down stairs. The Capricorn weights about 13.5 lbs. not including a floor tool.
Miele has satisfied our desire for looks and protection, by outfitting the Silver Capricorn with integrated rubber PVC bumpers along the front, back and sides.
Minuses:
One thing we miss out on with the Capricorn is the lack of the automatic suction adjustment feature found in the Aquarius S5580.
The S5’s are designed slightly larger and about 3 lbs. heavier then the original S4 Galaxy series.
Summary:
At the top of the S5 Series, the Capricorn is packed with convenient luxury features. We really like the +/- finger tip suction controls located on the deluxe swivel handle, the filter change indicator and the automatic shut off feature when the vacuum is placed in the park position. The LED speed indicator is also a nice plus, especially when you are in darker areas and want to adjust your suction. As with all the Miele S5’s, the Capricorn exhibits the quality design expected from Miele, with an Active HEPA filter, large and very efficient 4.76 qt. dust bag, dust bag change indicator, sealed system design, silence insulation, integrated rubber PVC bumpers guards and ability to fit with multiple floor tools and accessories. The Capricorn proves to be a 5-star excellent canister vacuum that can tackle any job. The Capricorn comes with the full power brush to deep clean your carpets and the parquet twister great for delicate smooth flooring.
