Introduction to Miele S4 Galaxy Series Vacuum Cleaners - S4212 Polaris and Neptune
Compact and lightweight, Miele‘s S4 Galaxy Series Vacuum Cleaners are easy to use and quiet! The entry-level S4212 Polaris and Neptune vacuum cleaners come complete with a Super Air Clean Filter, manual power controls on the canister, three professional grade accessory tools and more. The Super Air Clean Filter can be replaced with a HEPA Filter (sold separately) if desired. Color and the type of standard floor tool are what separate the Polaris and Neptune from each other. The light blue Polaris comes standard with a combination floor tool and can be upgrade to our Deluxe or Supreme package to include additional floor tools to accommodate highly polished bare floors and low-medium pile carpets. The turquoise Neptune comes standard with a parquet floor brush and air-driven turbo brush for highly polished bare floors and low-medium pile carpets.
Recommended for:
Low to Medium pile carpet, highly polished floors and scatter rugs. Turbo brush gently cleans and restores crushed low-medium pile carpet of light density. Parquet floor brush is easily maneuverable and gently sweeps over highly polished floors brushing particles out of the cracks.
Miele S4212 Neptune (Turquoise) Canister Vacuum Cleaner at $499.00.
Recommended for: Mostly bare floors and only a few low pile scatter rugs. We do not recommend this package if you have highly polished hardwood floors, tile or a lot of higher pile carpeting.
Miele S4212 Polaris (Light Bue) - Standard Package at $399.00.
Recommended for: Mostly bare floors or hardwood floors and tile with a highly polished finish. Parquet floor brush is easier to use and works better on highly polished floors than the combination loor tool.
Miele S4212 Polaris (Light Blue) - Deluxe Package at $468.00.
Recommended for:
Low to Medium pile carpet, highly polished floors and scatter rugs. Turbo brush is air driven instead of straight suction, so it easier to use and does a better job removing dirt and pet hair than the standard combination tool. The Parquet floor brush works better and is gentler on bare floors than the combination floor tool, which is why we recommend it for highly polished surfaces.

The Miele Polaris and Neptune canister vacuum cleaners are the entry-level vacuums of the S4 Galaxy Series offering Super Air Clean filtration, sealed system construction, manual dial power-controls on the canister, professional tools, and more all in a compact, lightweight design.
Pluses:
Respectable filtration: The Super Air Clean filter is easy to change and is electro-statically charged to retain a majority of dust particles. If you want the best filtration, a HEPA filter can be purchased separately.
Impressive power: Just as powerful as their larger siblings, these vacuums have the same 1200 watt motor.
Quiet operation: Miele's reputation for quiet vacuum cleaners continues with the S4 Galaxy Series units, which are so quiet you can actually hear your phone ring.
Lightweight: We cannot stress enough how easy these vacuums are to move and carry. For those of you with two floors or stairs, these vacuums are perfect.
Auto-reverse cord rewind: No need to bend down when you are finished vacuum cleaning - simply step on the auto-reverse button to rewind the cord.
Professional grade tools: Since these vacuums are smaller, the tools are stored on the wand. Unlike most units with tool storage on the wand, we found these are actually easy to snap on and off.
Neat storage with wand park system: We like this feature because it makes storing the vacuum much easier.
Parquet floor brush: Easily glides over all bare floor and tile surfaces thanks to its two soft rollers and gentle horsehair bristles which are great at getting dust and particles out of cracks and crevices. The brush's 90° rotation makes cleaning corners and around furniture easy. We think this brush is superb, especially for highly polished flooring that easily scratches.
Turbo brush: Turbo brush is a lightweight, easily maneuverable carpet tool powered by air movement of the vacuum cleaner. It features a surrounding buffer strip to help protect your furniture. This tool works very well on low to medium pile carpeting
and does a better job at removing pet hair than the straight suction combination Carpet/Floor tool.
Minuses:
The combination floor and carpet tool (standard floor tool for the Polaris) is not as good as the rest of Miele‘s professional grade tools. For those of you who have more specific cleaning needs, i.e. highly polished hardwood floors, low to medium pile carpeting etc. take a look at the Deluxe and Supreme packages we have put together to help meet your house cleaning needs.
Unlike Miele‘s larger models, these units do not have a bumper guard to protect your furniture as well as the exterior of the vacuum.
The dust bags are excellent for trapping particulates, however, they are small and only have a 3.7 quart capacity.
Unfortunately there is no filter indicator on the S4212 models, which means you have to estimate when it is time to change your filter. (Please note: the filter indicator is only available on the Orion S4780 model).
While the Polaris and Neptune vacuum cleaners are very easy to maneuver, they are not as easy to maneuver as the S4 top of line models (Luna and Orion) in the Galaxy series that have a deluxe handle for additional swivel capabilities.

We love the portability of Miele‘s Galaxy Series S4212 Vacuum Cleaners, which are easy to use, carry and store. They are available with a variety of floor tool packages so you can find the perfect vacuum set to fit your individual house cleaning needs. The entry-level Polaris and Neptune are stylish, convenient and offer a truly great value for the price!
