New to the S4 Galaxy Series, the S4582 Eclipse adds versatility and a new attractive midnight purple color with a soft touch finish to our Miele Vacuum Cleaner line up. Replacing the S4580 Luna as the middle choice of the S4 Galaxy Series, the Eclipse is a step above the S4212 Polaris and Neptune. It offers improved maneuverability and ease of operation with +/- speed controls, an ergonomic deluxe operating handle and a tri-scoping telescopic wand. This lightweight, compact canister vacuum cleaner comes standard with a combination floor tool ideal for low pile carpets and bare floors. To accommodate a larger variety of floor care needs, we created a Deluxe and Supreme Package. The Eclipse Deluxe Package includes a parquet floor brush for delicate smooth floors such as hard wood, parquet or tile. The Eclipse Supreme Package includes a parquet floor brush and an air-driven turbo brush for medium pile carpets and area rugs as well as delicate smooth floors. The Miele Eclipse canister vacuum cleaner replaces the Luna as the middle model of the S4 series offering HEPA filtration, a swivel neck deluxe handle, push button electronic controls on the canister and more. Its stylish appearance is finished with a soft touch Midnight Purple color.
Pluses:
First-rate HEPA filtration: We tested these to trap virtually every particle down to .3 microns inside the vacuum cleaner.
Powerful: The Eclipse has the same 1200 watt motor as some of Miele's luxury-class vacuum cleaners.
Quiet operation: Remarkably quiet — we are impressed.
Clean high and low with the wand: The tri-scope wand effortlessly extends in two places and is 4" longer than Miele's traditional telescopic wand.
Lightweight: We were very pleased with the portability of these vacuums, which were especially good for vacuuming stairs.
Superior maneuverability: The Eclipse vacuum cleaner has a swivel neck on the Deluxe handle and 360° swivel hoses for the best in maneuverability.
Simple cord rewind: The step-on auto-reverse button quickly rewinds the cord.
Professional grade tools: Since the Galaxy Series vacuums are smaller, the tools are stored on the wand. Unlike most units with tool storage on the wand, we found these are actually easy to snap on and off.
Neat storage: We like the wand park system feature because it makes storing the vacuum much easier.
Parquet floor brush: Easily glides over all bare floor and tile surfaces thanks to its two soft rollers and gentle horsehair bristles which are great at getting dust and particles out of cracks and crevices. The brush's 90° rotation makes cleaning corners and around furniture easy. We think this brush is superb, especially for highly polished flooring that easily scratches.
Turbo brush: Turbo brush is a lightweight, easily maneuverable carpet tool powered by air movement of the vacuum cleaner. It features a surrounding buffer strip to help protect your furniture. This tool works very well on low to medium pile carpeting.
Minuses:
The Eclipse comes standard with a combination carpet/smooth floor tool which gets the job done but is not ideal for thick or medium pile carpet or delicate smooth flooring. We designed the Deluxe and Supreme packages to help meet your individual household floor cleaning needs.
Unlike Miele's larger models, these units do not have a bumper guard to protect your furniture as well as the exterior of the vacuum.
The FJM HyClean dust bags are excellent for trapping particulates, however, they are smaller with a 3.7 quart capacity.
Unfortunately there is no filter indicator on the Eclipse S4582, which means you have to estimate when it is time to change your HEPA filter (Please note: the filter indicator is only available on the Orion model S4780.)
Summary:
The midnight purple Eclipse S4582 replaces the polar ice Luna S4580. It is the middle model of the compact S4 Galaxy series and offers everything that the more expensive Orion S4780 model offers with the exception of fingertip controls and a filter change indicator. The Eclipse comes standard with HEPA filtration, deluxe handle, +/- controls, bag change indicator, 3 accessory tools and a combination carpet/smooth floor tool. We created a Deluxe and Supreme package that include additional floors tools designed for delicate smooth flooring and medium pile carpets or rugs to provide a household floor cleaning package to match everyone's needs.
