- HEPA Filtration: The superior performance of the Active HEPA Filter traps tiny particulates for clean air and filtration of dust, dust mites, allergens and more making it easy for allergy and asthma sufferers to vacuum. The S5’s Active HEPA filter coupled with its sealed system construction received certification from the DMT Air Quality Testing for “Excellent Air Quality”.
- Replaceable Dust bag: New larger capacity 4.76 qt. G/N bag allows for longer use. Miele dust bags are part of the sealed system design ensuring excellent air quality, optimum performance of suction power and safe use of the full bag’s capacity thanks to the dust bag replacement indicator.
- Floor tools: The Miele Callisto S5280 comes with the mid-sized Power brush 217-3 designed with a 10.5” floating head and swivel neck to clean and restore all types of carpet. We also offer the Callisto with the full-sized powerbrush 236 with a 13 3/8” cleaning path and 5 adjustable height settings. Both packages include a Parquet floor brush with genuine horsehair bristles and 90 ° rotating head to gently clean smooth highly polished floors.
- On-board tools: Includes 3 on-board tools hidden under the main body of the vacuum: Crevice Tool for hard-to-clean corners and next to walls, a Dust Brush with natural bristles and swivel head for gently cleaning moldings and ornate or carved articles and Upholstery Tool for mattresses, cushions and curtains.
- Power Adjustment: The Callisto features a 6-level power adjustment for use on different flooring; located on canister.

Pluses:
- The Callisto is a great value for the price. It lacks some of the luxury features of the Capricorn and Aquarius, but has the same quality Miele design and construction.
- The Callisto provides your walls protection from marks and dings with its integrated rubber PVC bumper guards.
- We applaud the silence insulation which is standard in the S5 models, allowing for a more peaceful vacuuming experience for the operator and whole family!
- The S5’s come standard with the new Parquet Floor brush, with a new improved swivel design which is most helpful when cleaning in hard to reach areas like under the bed. The Parquet Floor Brush has been redesigned with shorter natural bristles and spaces between the bristle sections to provide for maximum suction and longer life.
- Active HEPA filter and Miele’s sealed system design allow the Callisto to provide excellent air quality as you vacuum.
- The larger 4.67 qt. dust bags are great not only because they hold more reducing the frequency of having to replace bags, but they also make the vacuum more efficient.
- The handy dust bag change indicator tells you when your bag is full and needs to be replaced. No more guessing games.
- Callisto weights in at 13.5 lbs. (not including a floor tool) making it easy to maneuver and carry up stairs.
Minuses:
- The mid-sized 10.5" power brush SEB 217-3 is good for uniform height wall to wall carpet, but not so good if you have lots of pet hair or need the more powerful, deep suction provided by the full-sized 13 3/8" power brush 236.
- The Callisto is not the luxury model of the S5’s so it lacks special features like +/- suction controls and a filter change indicator. The Callisto has a manual rotary dial which is located down on front of the canister.
Summary:
The Callisto proves to be a great value for the price. Ranking third in the middle of the S5 series, the Callisto is still a strong 4-star convenient and user friendly vacuum. The Callisto proudly represents the Miele S5 series, exhibiting the same quality design expected from Miele, with an Active HEPA filter, large and very efficient 4.76 qt. dust bag, dust bag change indicator, sealed system design, silence insulation, integrated rubber PVC bumpers guards and ability to fit with multiple floor tools and accessories. The Callisto packaged with the mid-sized 10.5" power brush 217-3 at the cheaper price point is great for houses with a combination of bare floors and uniform carpeting that doesn’t require the extra suction power of the full-sized 13 5/8" power brush 236.
