The Miele Solaris vacuums have always been a favorite amongst our customers and we expect the same for the attractive Mango Red Direct Connect S514 Solaris. This HEPA optional mid-sized canister vacuum has all the same great features and quality you expect from a Miele vacuum and is an excellent choice without paying over the top. Packaged with the 10.5" SEB 217 Powerbrush, the Mango Red Solaris is best suited for those with mostly wall-to-wall carpeting. Miele vacuum cleaners are excellent products and this one is no exception. HEPA filters and Parquet floor brushes are optional and sold separately.

Features of Miele Solaris Electro S514 Mango Red Canister Vacuum Cleaner

- Filtration: The Mango Red Solaris comes standard with a Super Air Clean filter made of multi-ply material which is electrostatically charged to retain 99.95% of particles down to 0.5 of a micron and 94% of particles down to 0.3 of a micron. This filter lasts as long as 5 dustbags. Optional Active HEPA filter is also available which traps 99.99% of all particles as tiny as 0.3 of a micron.
- Power and performance: 1200 watt, 2-fan high output motor; Airflow: 140 cubic feet per minute
- Integrated accessories onboard: Includes a dusting brush, upholstery nozzle and crevice tool useful for cleaning upholstery, shelves, baseboards and more. All are conveniently stored onboard, just a hands-reach away under the ABS plastic casing.
- 2 point wand park system: Insert the lower clip on the floor brush into the slot on the end of the vacuum cleaner from above. This is helpful for neat storage or a pause while vacuuming.
- Speed control: 6 stage speed control via rotary dial located on the canister. Adjust the motor's output to optimize cleaning of any surface.
- Stability and easy maneuvering: The undercarriage has three high-quality, steel-mounted, smooth-running castor wheels, making the Solaris extremely stable and very easy to maneuver around obstacles.
- Quiet operation: Thanks to thoughtfully-designed motor suspension and unique motor seal, one can still hear the phone ringing or radio playing with the vacuum on.
- Time saving auto-reverse cable rewind: With a quick push of a step button on the canister, the power cord quickly rewinds.

The Solaris Direct Connect S514 Mango Red vacuum cleaner is a midsize canister vacuum cleaner that is HEPA optional and has all the same great features you expect from Miele. Miele vacuum cleaners are excellent products and this one is no exception.
Pluses:
- Sealed HEPA filtration: When paired with the optional Active HEPA filter, Miele Solaris Direct Connect S514 vacuum cleaners are the first vacuum cleaners to be independently certified to be true HEPA sealed vacuum cleaner systems. This means the dust and other allergens that you vacuum will stay in the vacuum cleaner where they belong instead of exhausting into the air as in some other vacuum cleaners.
- Telescopic Wand: The Solaris vacuum cleaners come with a telescopic 14 inch adjustable wand. We love the flexibility that this feature gives us allowing us to clean low and high by effortlessly changing the length of the wand.
- Surge Protected Motor: Miele changed the way the motors power on in the Solaris vacuum cleaners so that they now power on like a computer - gradually to protect against power surges.
- Easy Access Onboard Tools: Intuitively easy to change and all worked well. The natural bristle dusting brush was soft enough for the best of antique furniture. The result for all our testers was that they were encouraged to do a more thorough cleaning job than usual. Difficult tasks such as stairs, pleated lampshades, high ledges, under the refrigerator, and venetian blind vacuuming were among the tasks mentioned as being easier to accomplish.
- Good maneuverability: All testers found this vacuum cleaner to be light weight, and its swivel technology made changing directions and accessing awkward spots a real breeze.
- Vacuum bag change indicator: Is a plus on Solaris vacuum cleaners.
- Neat storage with wand park system: This vacuum feature allows the floor tool to rest upright against the machine when not in use and facilitates neat storage. The hose park feature was changed in the Solaris line of vacuum cleaners from a one point to a two point system for more stability when you are not using the machine.
- Canister Bumper guard: A bumper strip encompasses the entire canister to prevent any damage to furniture and the vacuum cleaner itself. Helps the vacuum safely travel around corners and furniture.
- Effective lightweight powerbrush: The mid-sized powerbrush SEB 217 worked very efficiently and did a wonderful job at all the task we put it up to. There were almost no visible lint particulates left on dark colored carpets. This powerhead left our carpets looking and feeling clean and new.
Minuses:
- No fingertip controls: We would have liked finger tip controls as found on the higher priced Miele vacuum cleaners. All motor controls are on the canister in the Solaris S500 models.
- Upholstery tool and pet hair: We did find we needed to use the optional mini turbo hand brush sold below for removing layers of cat hair from dark velvet cushions since the regular upholstery attachment did an adequate but not perfect job.
- Small vacuum bags: The bags are relatively small (4.5 quarts) because of the space used by on board tools stored in the canister, and we needed to change them every 2-3 weeks. If you want a large capacity vacuum bag consider the Miele S5 series Capricorn vacuum cleaner.
- Speed Control Dial: The speed control dial is on the canister of the Miele Solaris vacuums and not on the wand, which is just a little less convenient.
Summary:
The Solaris vacuum cleaners offer improvements over the older Miele Red Star and White Star vacuum cleaners. The Solaris vacuums are more powerful due to increased airflow from a wider designed vacuum hose, and have a larger operating radius. They also offer 2 point wand parking vs. 1 point in the Red and White Stars. The Solaris includes a electric telescopic wand rather than a 2 piece non-electric wand. The Solaris vacuums include onboard tools which are easy to use for cleaning upholstery, dusting furniture and draperies as well.
